Exo-skeletons
– for the ups and downs in life
Brief
An EXO-skeleton is a robotic construction mounted outside (exo) the body, supporting or enhancing the body’s natural movement.
Currently, exo-skeletons are primarily used for rehabilitation or military purposes. In the longer run, we imagine that eco-skeletons may prove useful for many other user groups.

EXO-SKELETONS WILL REDUCE HEALTH COSTS AND ACTIVELY PREVENT PAIN

A RECENT STUDY SHOWS that 80% of European citizens over the age of 65 suffer from chronic pain and need treatment in arms, elbows, or shoulders. Studies of hips and legs are equally gloomy. Consider then an aging population and you soon realize that patient numbers will increase dramatically in the foreseeable future.
Progress in biomechanics have led to a growing industry in both passive (orthosis) and active exo-skeletons. Emerging markeds outside the typical usage are expected to open within just a few years.

Collaboration
Our closest partner in the matter of exo-skelotons is Dr. Shaoping Bai fra Aalborg Universitet, seen here with an early prototype.
Dr. Bai is a leading researcher in exo-skeletons and – same as Henrik Scharfe – one of the founders of Aalborg U Robotics.
Together with Wolturnus, Vesthimmerlands Kommune, and Ningbo Institute of Materials & Engineering, CAS, China, AAU and Autonomous run the project
with support from Innovation Fund Denmark
